On this Veteran’s Day, I want to pay tribute to my Dad, Rev. Joseph DeSerio, who defended our country’s freedoms by serving in Europe during WWII. God kept him safe in spite of bombings in London and attacks by German submarines at sea.
My Dad loved music, so I know he’d enjoy this “God and Country” collection of pieces I’ve arranged. I start with two patriotic brass numbers, followed by a tribute to our amazing and mighty God. The last piece is a nod toward Christmas with a medley of carols (see descriptions below).

God and Country
1. “God of Our Fathers” begins with reflective moments to remember those who died fighting for our freedoms. It ends triumphantly (note strains of the “Hallelujah” Chorus).
2. “Battle Hymn of the Republic” proclaims, “As Christ died to make men holy, let us live to make men free…Glory Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.”
3. “How Majestic is Your Name” — “Lord God Almighty, Prince of Peace” are names that describe who He is.
4. “Our God” – “If our God is with us, then what could stand against?”
5. “Glory to God in the Highest” – a medley beginning with “Glory to God” from the “Messiah,” following with “While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks,” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” and ending with Vivaldi’s “Gloria!”
Jadie, your music blesses so many people’s lives. Your Dad is watching over you.
