“He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth’” (Job 37:6).
Snow day. Gray skies heavy with snow. Tiny flakes falling straight down, snow on snow, all day. In our front yard, sidewalks and steps disappear from sight. Everything outside is mummified in white. The garage roof now wears a foot-high snow hat. Snow-covered roads are deserted, schools are closed. Most people are home, hunkered down to wait out the storm.
Who decided to call for a snow day? Not the weatherman. He only notes what he sees coming.
No doubt about it—God is in control of the weather. The ancient book of Job tells us, “So that all people He has made may know His work, He stops everyone from their labor” (Job 37:7).
Nature is trying to tell us something on a snowy day like this. It tells us, “So, you think you had plans? You think you’re in control of your life? Look again.” A snowy day reminds us, once again, that our Creator God is in control of His world.
Look at the bright side: at least snow is beautiful, and quiet, and serene. A snow day gives us a chance to curl up in a warm house and thank God we have heat and running water! It’s an unexpected gift from God, perhaps to spend time reading a good book or connecting with the family He gave us to enjoy.
Lord, you caught my attention again with Your beautiful snow. Thanks for keeping me warm and safe.
