Humility Toward God
Lord, You require of us to act justly, love mercy, and to walk humbly with You (Micah 6:8).
We acknowledge that, in order for You to heal our land, we, as Your people, must first humble ourselves in prayer as we seek Your face and turn from our wicked ways (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Almighty God, heaven is Your throne and the earth is Your footstool. Your hand has made all these things, everything that exists! The one You esteem is he who is humble and contrite in spirit, who trembles at Your word (Isaiah 66:2).
Humility and the fear of You, Lord, bring wealth, honor, and life (Proverbs 22:4).
Guide us to humbly seek righteousness and to do what You command. Please shelter us on the day of Your anger (Zephaniah 2:3).
You are good and upright; You instruct sinners in Your ways. You guide the humble in what is right. We seek Your guidance as You teach us Your way (Psalm 25:8,9).
Please help us to get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept Your word planted in us which can save us (James 1:21).
May we not think of ourselves more highly than we ought, but with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith You have given us (Romans 12:3).
The Humility of Christ
We seek to follow Your example, Jesus. You did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Yourself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant. You humbled Yourself and became obedient to even death on a cross (Philippians 2:6-8).
Jesus, You invite us to be yoked to You and learn from You, for You are gentle and humble in heart (Matthew 11:29).
Humility Towards Others
God, please show us how to clothe ourselves with humility toward one another, because You oppose the proud but give grace to the humble. Therefore, we seek to humble ourselves under Your mighty hand that You may lift us up in due time (1 Pet. 5:5,6).
May we do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility value others above ourselves. We will strive to look not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of others (Philippians 2:3,4).
We understand that we show we are wise by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. If we harbor bitter envy or selfish ambition, we will find disorder and evil practice. Instead, guide us in Your heavenly wisdom that is pure, peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere (James 3:13-17).
D. L. Moody—“I believe firmly that the moment our hearts are emptied of pride and selfishness and ambition and everything that is contrary to God’s law, the Holy Spirit will fill every corner of our hearts.”
