We’re happy to announce that J. D. Jones has again had an original piece for harp published in Folk Harp Journal. The Winter 2017 edition included “Come Join and Sing,” JoAnne’s joyful composition based on Psalm 100. The piece was originally written as a worship song for church and then later arranged as a harp solo in 2014. Its syncopated melody begins with a simple modal harmonization and is repeated as a canon or round.
JoAnne began composing music in high school. Later she studied composition formally at Houghton College under Composer in Residence, Dr. William T. Allen. When she first started arranging and writing for her 26-string Dusty Strings folk harp, she was advised by her harp instructor, Deette Bunn, harpist with the Syracuse Symphony.
This is the fourth piece by JoAnne that Folk Harp Journal has chosen for publication.
