“PRAY! Because our nation’s future depends on it. God can use you to bring lasting change to America through your prayers.” Franklin Graham
“If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14, NIV).
We were once a God-fearing nation, founded on godly principles. But we have obviously drifted from God. Even Christians are shifting toward the world’s practices, spending less time in God’s Word, prayer, and worship. We also see an increase in violence, sexual immorality, dishonesty, corruption, anti-Christian bias, and callous disregard for human life. Now our country is in serious trouble, with the state of our economy, threats of social unrest, war and ISIS. Is our country approaching a crucial crossroads of God’s judgment? God told Israel “If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods, you will surely be destroyed, like the nations before you” (Deuteronomy 8:19, condensed).
What will be our response? The solution will not be found in government, laws, social reform, financial assistance, or in military strength. These things have been tried and failed. There is one weapon of great power that God has given to Christians for such a time as this.
2 Cor. 10:3, 4 tells us, “We do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” What are those weapons? The two offensive weapons listed in Ephesians 6:17, 18 are: “the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God” and prayer. As Christians, we can wage war behind the scenes in a much more effective way than all the world’s armies, because God, our Creator and Commander in Chief, has ultimate control!
But first we must come together as His people, humbly seeking His face, praying for His forgiveness for the sins of our land, and change our path (2 Chron. 7:14). Only then will He hear our pleas and heal our land.
We need to meet with other Christians in our neighborhoods and pray together as a community for these common goals. Jesus tells us in Matthew 18:19, “If two of you agree about anything you ask for, it will be done by my Father. For where two or three come together in My name, there am I with them.” There is more power in corporate prayer than if we pray individually!
