On the busiest of days, you probably ask yourself, “How am I going to get everything done today?” So you prioritize and give it your best shot. But God has something else for us. He wants us to depend on Him and His power.
Before you say, “I’ve got this,” remember that even Jesus said, “By myself I can do nothing…I seek not to please Myself but Him who sent me… The Son can do only what He sees His Father doing” (John 5:30, 19). People were amazed at the power shown in all Jesus’ miracles: healing the sick, calming the storm. But Jesus performed miracles by God’s power, to point people to God.
“Christ’s power grew out of His deep dependency upon the Father.” Jesus set for us the pattern: “the perfection of a surrendered heart” (Francis Frangipane).1
Starting our day in dependence on God opens the door to allow His power to work through us all day. We will make wiser decisions and discover newfound strength by letting God guide us. Just as Jesus did.
Charles Stanley wrote, “You may work well for God, but when God’s power works through you, astounding things happen.” 2
May you be delighted in what God can do through you today!
PS: I just read this verse in my daily reading: “‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord’” (Zechariah 4:6).
